Position Title: Maintenance Supervisor Base Salary: $9.00-12.00 Classification: Regular Full-time Status: Non-exempt Hours: 8:00am – 4:30pm Monday – Friday, plus weekends & holidays on a rotating basis (rounds) Reports to: Mayor and Water/Wastewater superintendent Supervises: Maintenance team Purpose of Job The purpose of this job is to perform supervisory/mechanical functions associated with the operations and maintenance of water pollution control systems and mechanical equipment. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting, instructing, and disciplining assigned staff; supervising the repair, maintenance and operation of water pollution equipment; maintaining records of all maintenance and preventive maintenance activities; maintaining inventory records of equipment and parts; and performing additional tasks as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: A. High School Diploma or GED Additional Vocational/Technical training in Mechanics, Pump Maintenance, or Water Pollution Control Systems preferred, (not required) B. Two to four years of wastewater systems maintenance, pump maintenance, or other mechanical operations/maintenance which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position C. Requires possession of or ability to readily obtain a Class III state certified license for wastewater treatment. D. Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations E. Knowledge of the geography of the city, including street names and locations F. Skill in the operation and maintenance of such equipment as a backhoe, tractor, bush hog, and dump truck G. Skill in using such tools as a shovel, chainsaw, riding mower, etc. H. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated I. Knowledge of basic safety policies and procedures J. Knowledge of defensive driving techniques K. Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather, and while exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts L. Ability to lift light and heavy objects; use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity; perform work while sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping General Duties: A. Street Maintenance: 1. Mows grass, repairs and installs signs, patches holes, trims limbs, clears rights-of-way 2. Collects leaves, brush and limbs B. Water and Wastewater Utilities: 1. Performs twice daily “rounds” of water and sewer plants 2. Installs and maintains water and sewer lines and meters 3. Reads meters when necessary and records readings 4. Connects and disconnects meters as required C. General: 1. Performs preventative maintenance of department vehicles and equipment 2. Submits list of needed supplies to City Clerk for ordering D. All other times and duties as required. Essential Supervisory Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Supervises and evaluates assigned staff, including Maintenance; handles all employee concerns, directing work assignments, counseling and disciplining employees when necessary, and completing employee performance appraisals • Supervises the maintenance and repair of all water pollution control equipment; instructs staff in operation, maintenance and repair of equipment. • Maintains computer records of all maintenance and preventative maintenance activities • Maintains computer inventory records of equipment and parts; orders additional parts/supplies as needed. • Operates a variety of heavy equipment, lawn maintenance equipment, specialty equipment and tools as required (e.g. dump truck, tractor, front end loader, drill press, welder, band saw, cutting torch, etc.) • Receives and/or prepares reports, forms, and other documentation; reviews, processes and/or forwards as appropriate; maintains records; performs other clerical duties. • Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information; takes and relays messages and/or directs calls to appropriate personnel; returns calls as necessary. • Responds to routine requests for information from officials, employers, members of the staff, the public or other individuals • Performs duties of Water /Sewer Pollution Control Operator as required.
